Proactive Recording of Locations for Backtracking - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18299011 titled 'Proactive Recording of Locations for Backtracking

Simplified Explanation

- This patent application describes methods, mediums, and systems for providing historical positioning information. - The device is able to detect certain conditions in user contextual data that trigger the collection of a set of historical positions within a specific time frame called a lookback window. - The device then receives at least one historical position from the set of historical positions within the lookback window. - The received historical position is classified by the device based on one or more features to determine if it can be considered as a candidate location for a backtrack route. - Based on this classification, the device decides whether to provide the historical position as part of the lookback window. - The purpose of this innovation is to provide accurate historical positioning information to assist users in retracing their steps or navigating back to a specific location.
