METHOD OF OPERATING SIDELINK REMOTE UE IN RELATION TO PATH SWITCHING IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18298821 titled 'METHOD OF OPERATING SIDELINK REMOTE UE IN RELATION TO PATH SWITCHING IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

Simplified Explanation

This patent application describes a method for operating a sidelink relay in a wireless communication system. The method involves performing measurements on multiple potential relay devices, reporting the measurement results to a base station, establishing a connection with a selected relay device, and transmitting data through that device.

  • The method starts by measuring the performance of several candidate relay devices.
  • The measurement results are then reported to the base station.
  • The base station selects a relay device based on the reported measurements and establishes a connection with it.
  • Data is transmitted through the selected relay device.
  • The remote user equipment (UE) monitors changes in cell identifiers (IDs) of the relay devices for a certain period of time after the initial measurements.
  • If a relay device's cell ID changes during this time, its measurement result is excluded from being reported to the base station.

Original Abstract Submitted

In an embodiment of the present disclosure, there is provided a method of operating a sidelink relay in a wireless communication system. The method may include: performing measurement on a plurality of candidate relay UEs; reporting measurement results of one or more relay UEs among the plurality of candidate relay UEs to a base station based on the measurement; establishing a connection with a first relay UE selected by the base station from among the plurality of candidate relay UEs; and transmitting data through the first relay UE. The remote UE may monitor changes in cell identifiers (IDs) of the one or more relay UEs for a predetermined time after performing the measurement on the plurality of candidate relay UEs, and a measurement result of a relay UE having a changed cell ID among the one or more relay UEs may be excluded from reporting the measurement results.
