Resource Selection-Type Dependent Prioritization of Resource Pool Utilization - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18249983 titled 'Resource Selection-Type Dependent Prioritization of Resource Pool Utilization

Simplified Explanation

This patent application describes a method for selecting radio resources for device-to-device (D2D) transmissions in wireless communication devices. Here are the key points:

  • The resource pool is divided into subsets of radio resources, each associated with different selection mechanisms.
  • The wireless communication device applies a specific selection mechanism to prioritize the subsets.
  • Based on the prioritization, the device selects at least one radio resource from the pool.
  • The device then performs D2D transmissions on the selected radio resource(s).

Original Abstract Submitted

A resource pool for selection of radio resources for D2D transmissions by wireless communication devices is divided into multiple subsets (S1, S2, S3) of radio resources which are each associated with at least one of multiple types of selection mechanisms. Depending on which of the multiple types of selection mechanisms is applied by a wireless communication device for selection of radio resources for D2D transmissions, the wireless communication device performs prioritization of the subsets (S1, S2, S3). Based on the prioritization of the subsets (S1, S2, S3), the wireless communication device selects at least on radio resource from the resource pool. Further, the wireless communication device performs one or more D2D transmissions on the selected at least one radio resource.
