Method for Operating a Hand-Held Power Tool - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18249713 titled 'Method for Operating a Hand-Held Power Tool

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method for operating a hand-held power tool with an electric motor.

  • The method involves providing comparative information, which includes a model signal waveform that represents the work progress of the power tool, and a threshold for determining a match.
  • The method also includes analyzing the signal of an operational variable of the electric motor and comparing it with the model signal waveform to determine a match signal.
  • A match evaluation is then carried out using the match signal and the threshold to determine the level of match between the operational variable and the model signal waveform.
  • The match evaluation is used to detect the work progress of the power tool, with the comparative information being automatically evaluated to provide this detection.
  • The invention aims to provide a more efficient and accurate way of operating a hand-held power tool by analyzing the operational variable of the electric motor.

Original Abstract Submitted

A method for operating a hand-held power tool is disclosed, with the hand-held power tool including an electric motor. The method includes step (S) providing comparative information, having the steps of (Sa) providing at least one model signal waveform, said model signal waveform being assignable to the work progress of the hand-held power tool, and (Sb) providing a threshold of a match. The method further includes step (S) ascertaining a signal of an operational variable of the electric motor. The method also includes step (S) analyzing the comparative information and the signal of an operational variable, having the steps of (Sa) comparing the signal of the operational variable with the model signal waveform and ascertaining a match signal from the comparison, and (Sb) ascertaining a match evaluation, said match evaluation being carried out at least partly using the threshold of the match and using the match signal. In addition, the method includes step (S) detecting the work progress at least partly using the match evaluation ascertained in step S, said comparative information being provided at least partly on the basis of an automatic evaluation of the match signal. An associated hand-held power tool is also disclosed.
