CONTROL DEVICE AND METHOD FOR DETERMINING A P-V CHARACTERISTIC OF AT LEAST ONE WHEEL BRAKE CYLINDER OF A BRAKE SYSTEM OF A VEHICLE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18245927 titled 'CONTROL DEVICE AND METHOD FOR DETERMINING A P-V CHARACTERISTIC OF AT LEAST ONE WHEEL BRAKE CYLINDER OF A BRAKE SYSTEM OF A VEHICLE

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method for determining the p-V characteristic (pressure-volume relationship) of a wheel brake cylinder in a vehicle's brake system.

  • The method involves increasing the pressure in the wheel brake cylinder over a specific measurement time interval.
  • During this interval, the current volume and pressure in the wheel brake cylinder are measured at least once.
  • The p-V characteristic of the wheel brake cylinder is then determined based on the volume and pressure variables.
  • Before the measurement time interval, there is a pressure increase interval where the pressure on the closed wheel inlet valve and/or isolating valve is increased.
  • The pressure is increased with an average pressure build-up gradient of at least 50 bar/second.
  • The pressure is increased up to a limit pressure of at least 25 bar.

Original Abstract Submitted

A method for determining a p-V characteristic of at least one wheel brake cylinder of a brake system of a vehicle. The method includes: increasing a pressure prevailing in the wheel brake cylinder during a measurement time interval, wherein a volume variable that reflects a present volume in the wheel brake cylinder, and a pressure variable that reflects a present pressure in the wheel brake cylinder, are determined at least once during the measurement time interval, and setting the p-V characteristic of the wheel brake cylinder taking into consideration the volume variable and the pressure variable. Before the measurement time interval, during a pressure increase interval, a pressure exerted on the closed wheel inlet valve and/or the closed isolating valve is increased with an average pressure build-up gradient greater than or equal to 50 bar/second up to a limit pressure of greater than or equal to 25 bar.
