BRAKING FORCE CONTROL DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18234008 titled 'BRAKING FORCE CONTROL DEVICE

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a control device, system, and method for distributing a braking request between a powertrain and a brake system based on the driver's request and the braking force that can be generated by the powertrain.

  • The control device, system, and method determine if the braking request exceeds the braking force that the powertrain can generate.
  • If the braking request is larger than the powertrain's braking force, the control device instructs the powertrain controller to generate the maximum braking force it can produce.
  • Additionally, the control device instructs the brake controller to generate a braking force equal to the difference between the braking request and the powertrain's braking force.
  • This approach ensures that the braking force is maximized by utilizing both the powertrain and the brake system effectively.
  • The control device, system, and method optimize the distribution of braking force based on the available capabilities of the powertrain and brake system.

Original Abstract Submitted

A control device, system and method that distribute a braking request to at least one of a powertrain and a brake based on a braking request by driver operation and a braking force that is generable by the power train. When the braking request is larger than the braking force that is generable by the powertrain, the device, system and method instruct a controller of the powertrain to generate the braking force that is generable by the powertrain, and to instruct a controller of the brake to generate a braking force corresponding to a difference between the braking request and the braking force that is generable by the powertrain.
