This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18223797 titled 'Systems and Methods for Detecting Improper Implementation of Presentation of Content Items by Applications Executing on Client Devices

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a system and method for detecting improper presentation of content items by applications on client devices.

  • The system receives content requests from multiple client devices, where each request is generated by an application running on a client device.
  • In response to a content request, the system transmits a content package to the client device, which includes a content item and an interaction confirmation script.
  • The system determines a location parameter associated with the interaction confirmation script.
  • It also determines a performance metric of the content item.
  • Based on the performance metric and the location parameter, the system determines whether the application receives inadvertent clicks on the content item.
