DIGITAL PEN AND PORTABLE ELECTRONIC DEVICE INCLUDING SAME - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18222148 titled 'DIGITAL PEN AND PORTABLE ELECTRONIC DEVICE INCLUDING SAME

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a digital pen that has a housing, a pen tip, a rod, a resonance circuit, and a control bar.

  • The digital pen has a housing that contains various components.
  • The pen tip is exposed through one end of the housing.
  • A rod extends from the pen tip into the housing.
  • The resonance circuit includes a coil, a resonance capacitor, and a variable capacitor.
  • The coil generates an electric current when a first signal is applied.
  • The resonance capacitor discharges the accumulated electric charge to the coil, resulting in the generation of a second signal.
  • The variable capacitor is used to change the resonance frequency of the second signal based on the pressure transferred from the pen tip through the rod.
  • The control bar is movable and can be in two positions.
  • In the first position, the control bar does not surround the coil.
  • In the second position, the control bar surrounds a part of the coil.
  • The control bar has a metallic part that is used to change the resonance frequency of the second signal.

Original Abstract Submitted

A digital pen includes a housing, a pen tip exposed through an end of the housing, a rod extending from the pen tip into the housing, a resonance circuit and a control bar. The resonant circuit includes a coil to generate an electric current by a first signal, a resonance capacitor for discharging the accumulated electric charge to the coil such that the coil generates a second signal, and a variable capacitor for changing the resonance frequency of the second signal depending on pressure transferred from the pen tip through the rod. The control bar is movable from a first position, in which the control bar does not surround the coil, to a second position, in which the control bar surrounds a part of the coil, and has a metallic part to change the resonance frequency of the second signal.
