BATTERY MODULE WITH IMPROVED FIRE PROTECTION PERFORMANCE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18029608 titled 'BATTERY MODULE WITH IMPROVED FIRE PROTECTION PERFORMANCE

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a battery module that is designed to prevent fires from occurring or spreading.

  • The battery module consists of a cell assembly, which includes multiple secondary batteries stacked on top of each other.
  • The module also includes a module case, which is made up of a lower plate, side plate, and upper plate. These plates create an inner space where the cell assembly is housed.
  • The module case has a trap unit on the inner surface of the side plate, which is concave outward.
  • The trap unit is designed to be biased in either a front or rear direction.

Overall, this battery module aims to enhance safety by effectively containing any potential fires within the module and preventing them from spreading.

Original Abstract Submitted

A battery module effectively prevents the occurrence or spread of fire. The battery module includes a cell assembly including a plurality of secondary batteries stacked on each other; and a module case including a lower plate, a side plate and an upper plate to form an inner space so that the cell assembly is accommodated therein, the module case including a trap unit formed in at least a part of an inner surface of the side plate to be concave outward, the trap unit being formed to be biased in a front or rear direction.
