This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17826002 titled 'PROVIDING COVERAGE TO USER EQUIPMENT FROM ANOTHER NETWORK AFFECTED BY A NETWORK OUTAGE OF LIMITED DURATION

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes technologies for providing internetwork coverage to user equipment affected by a temporary network outage in a 5G or next generation network.

  • The method involves identifying an outage area where there is a network interruption.
  • Based on the outage area, the method identifies user equipment that is affected by the coverage interruption.
  • A notification is then communicated to the affected user equipment, informing them of the coverage interruption.
  • The notification also includes an identification of a second communication network that can provide coverage to the user equipment during the outage.
  • After the coverage interruption, the user equipment can access coverage via the second communication network.

Original Abstract Submitted

The technologies described herein are generally directed to providing internetwork coverage to user equipment affected by a temporary network outage in a fifth generation (5G) network or other next generation networks. For example, a method described herein can include identifying an outage area associated with an incident. The method can further include, based on the outage area, identifying a user equipment affected by a coverage interruption. Further, the method can include communicating a notification comprising an identification of the user equipment as being affected by the coverage interruption, the second network equipment is part of a second communication network based on the outage area, identify a user equipment affected by a coverage based on the outage area interruption based on coverage being available to the user equipment, after the coverage interruption, via the second communication network.
