DYNAMIC BEAM SWITCHING DELAY CAPABILITY - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17739821 titled 'DYNAMIC BEAM SWITCHING DELAY CAPABILITY

Simplified Explanation

- This patent application describes methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication. - A user equipment (UE) can update its capability to a network entity periodically when there are changes in the complexity, power, or memory requirements of the UE. - The UE can also update its capability when triggered by a network entity, during a scheduled time set by the network entity, or when a timer expires. - The capabilities can include explicit values for beam switching delay or an index selecting delay values from a pre-configured table in the UE. - The UE and network entity can communicate based on capability values that indicate a time delay between a transmitted reference signal and the UE being ready for a downlink transmission using a selected beam based on the reference signal. - This capability can inform the network entity to avoid scheduling downlink messages during the delay.

Original Abstract Submitted

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may update a capability to a network entity periodically when the complexity, power, or memory needs of the UE change. The UE may additionally update the capability upon being triggered by a network entity, during a time scheduled by the network entity, upon the expiration of a timer, etc. The capabilities may be or include explicit values for beam switching delay, or an index selecting delay values from a table previously configured to the UE, for example. Additionally, The UE and network entity may support communications according to capability values associated with a time delay between a transmitted reference signal with repetition and the UE being ready for a downlink transmission using a beam selected based on the reference signal. This capability may indicate to the network entity to avoid scheduling downlink messages during the delay.
