Inclusion And Use Of Safety and Confidence Information Associated With Objects In Autonomous Driving Maps - A simplified explanation of the abstract

  • This abstract for appeared for patent application number 17658126 Titled 'Inclusion And Use Of Safety and Confidence Information Associated With Objects In Autonomous Driving Maps'

Simplified Explanation

This abstract describes methods and systems for autonomous driving systems to use map data in performing autonomous driving functions. The system accesses map data about objects or features near the vehicle and also accesses confidence information associated with the map data. This confidence information is then used by the system's processor to perform autonomous or semi-autonomous driving actions. The confidence information can be stored in the map database or in a separate data structure that the processor can access. Additionally, the abstract mentions methods for generating map safety and confidence information, which involves receiving information about a map object or feature along with a measure of confidence in that information. This measure of confidence is then used to generate safety and confidence information for the object or feature, which is stored for access by the vehicle's autonomous and semi-autonomous driving systems.

Original Abstract Submitted

Various embodiments include methods and systems for autonomous driving systems for using map data in performing an autonomous driving function. Various embodiments may include accessing map data regarding an object or feature in the vicinity of the vehicle, accessing confidence information associated with the map data, and using the confidence information in performing an autonomous or semi-autonomous driving action by the processor. The confidence information may be stored in the map database or in a separate data structure accessible by the processor. Methods of generating map safety and confidence information may include receiving information regarding a map object or feature including a measure of confidence in the information, using the received measure of confidence to generate safety and confidence information regarding the object or feature, and storing the safety and confidence information for access by vehicle autonomous and semi-autonomous driving systems.
