ANOMALY DETECTION DEVICE, ANOMALY DETECTION METHOD, AND COMPUTER PROGRAM FOR DETECTING ANOMALIES - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240135726 titled 'ANOMALY DETECTION DEVICE, ANOMALY DETECTION METHOD, AND COMPUTER PROGRAM FOR DETECTING ANOMALIES

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes an anomaly detection device that can detect abnormal road conditions by analyzing images of the surroundings of a vehicle and extracting features indicating the condition of the road surface.

  • The device includes a processor that extracts features from images using a feature extractor trained to identify normal road conditions.
  • Abnormal conditions are detected when the extracted feature falls outside a normal range, indicating the vehicle cannot travel normally.
  • The normal range is modified based on the distribution of normal travel features obtained while the vehicle travels normally.

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in autonomous vehicles, road maintenance systems, and driver assistance systems.

Problems Solved

This technology helps in early detection of abnormal road conditions, improving vehicle safety and reducing accidents.

Benefits

The device enhances road safety, improves vehicle performance, and provides real-time monitoring of road conditions.

Potential Commercial Applications

Commercial applications include integration into autonomous vehicles, road infrastructure monitoring systems, and fleet management solutions.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art could be the use of image processing and feature extraction in autonomous vehicles for road condition monitoring.

Unanswered Questions

How does the device handle extreme weather conditions that may affect road surfaces?

The patent application does not specify how the device adapts to extreme weather conditions that could impact road conditions.

What is the processing time for detecting abnormal road conditions and how does it impact real-time decision-making in vehicles?

The patent application does not provide information on the processing time required for detecting abnormal road conditions and its impact on real-time decision-making in vehicles.

Original Abstract Submitted

an anomaly detection device includes a processor configured to extract a feature indicating the condition of a road surface by inputting an image representing surroundings of a vehicle into a feature extractor that has been trained to extract the feature, detect an abnormal condition in which the vehicle is unable to travel normally, when the feature is outside a normal range that is a tolerable range in which the vehicle is able to travel normally, and modify the normal range, based on the distribution of normal travel features each indicating the condition of a road surface and extracted from the respective images obtained while the vehicle travels normally.
