The SECC Discovery Protocol (SDP) is used within the context of vehicle-to-grid (V2G) charging communication, particularly outlined in the ISO 15118 standard. It plays a critical role in the initial setup of communication between an electric vehicle (EV) and the Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE). After the address assignment process, SDP is employed to locate the IPv6 address of the EVSE. Additionally, it negotiates the transport and security protocols, along with their versions, to be used in subsequent communications. Depending on the specific environment, the transport protocol can either be plain TCP or secured with Transport Layer Security (TLS) .

This protocol is essential for ensuring the smooth and secure exchange of information between an EV and charging stations, laying the groundwork for further V2G interactions.
