METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MULTI-MODALITY SERVICE IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240114445 titled 'METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MULTI-MODALITY SERVICE IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

Simplified Explanation

The patent application abstract describes a method for operating an AMF in a wireless communication system to support higher data transmission rates, particularly for extended reality (XR) or multi-modality services.

  • The method involves receiving a PDU session establishment request message from a UE, including S-NSSAI and DNN information.
  • The AMF selects an SMF based on the UE's location information when the S-NSSAI and DNN are for XR or multi-modality services.
  • The selected SMF and PDU session are then established.

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in various industries such as virtual reality, augmented reality, gaming, telemedicine, and remote collaboration.

Problems Solved

This technology addresses the need for efficient session establishment and management in wireless communication systems, especially for high-bandwidth services like XR and multi-modality applications.

Original Abstract Submitted

the disclosure relates to a 5g or 6g communication system for supporting a higher data transmission rate. an operating method of an amf in a wireless communication system according to an embodiment of the disclosure includes receiving, from a ue, a protocol data unit (pdu) session establishment request message including single-network slice selection assistance information (s-nssai) and data network name (dnn), selecting a session management function (smf) in consideration of location information of a ue when the s-nssai and the dnn are for supporting an extended reality (xr) service or a multi-modality service, and establishing the selected smf and a pdu session.
