ELECTRONIC DEVICE FOR PLMN SELECTION AND OPERATION METHOD THEREOF - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240114438 titled 'ELECTRONIC DEVICE FOR PLMN SELECTION AND OPERATION METHOD THEREOF

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a patent application for an electronic device that can identify the country where it is located, generate a list of available networks in that country, search for networks based on that list, and register with a detected network.

  • Subscriber identification module, wireless communication circuit, and processor included in the electronic device.
  • Processor identifies the country where the device is located and generates a list of available networks in that country.
  • Device performs network search based on the generated list via the wireless communication circuit.
  • Device registers with a detected network in the searched list.

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in mobile phones, tablets, and other electronic devices that require network connectivity when traveling to different countries.

Problems Solved

This technology solves the problem of seamlessly connecting to local networks when traveling internationally, ensuring reliable communication and data services for the user.

Benefits

The benefits of this technology include improved network connectivity, reduced roaming charges, and enhanced user experience when using electronic devices in different countries.

Potential Commercial Applications

A potential commercial application of this technology could be in the telecommunications industry, where mobile phone manufacturers could integrate this feature into their devices to provide a better user experience for international travelers.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art for this technology could be the use of SIM cards with pre-programmed network information for different countries, but the automatic generation of a network list based on the device's location is a unique aspect of this patent application.

Unanswered Questions

How does the device determine the country where it is located?

The abstract does not specify the method used by the device to identify the country where it is located. It would be interesting to know if it relies on GPS, cell tower information, or other location-based technologies.

What happens if the device cannot find a suitable network in the generated list?

The abstract does not mention what the device does if it cannot find a network to register with based on the generated list. It would be important to understand how the device handles such situations to ensure continuous connectivity for the user.

Original Abstract Submitted

an electronic device may include a subscriber identification module, a wireless communication circuit, and a processor, wherein the processor identifies information on a country where the electronic device is located, when the country where the electronic device is located is changed on the basis of the country where the electronic device is located, generates a plmn list corresponding to the country where the electronic device is located, performs network search based on the plmn list via the wireless communication circuit and when a cell of a plmn included in the plmn list is detected through the network search, performs registration in the detected cell via the wireless communication circuit.
