ACCURATE ANGLE-OF-ARRIVAL ESTIMATION IN LINEAR ANTENNA ARRAYS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240094334 titled 'ACCURATE ANGLE-OF-ARRIVAL ESTIMATION IN LINEAR ANTENNA ARRAYS

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes techniques for wireless positioning using radio frequency signals and a user interface to guide a user in aligning the device for accurate positioning.

  • Wireless device receives radio frequency signals from a transmitter device.
  • Displays arrows on the user interface representing angle-of-arrival estimates of the RF signals.
  • Provides instructions to the user to move the device until the arrows are aligned.

Potential Applications

This technology could be used in indoor navigation systems, asset tracking, and location-based services.

Problems Solved

This technology helps users accurately determine their position in indoor environments where GPS signals may be weak or unavailable.

Benefits

Improved accuracy in indoor positioning, enhanced user experience in location-based applications, and increased efficiency in asset tracking.

Potential Commercial Applications

Potential commercial applications include indoor navigation systems for shopping malls, airports, hospitals, and warehouses.

Possible Prior Art

Prior art may include existing indoor positioning systems using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth signals for location tracking.

Unanswered Questions

How does this technology handle interference from other RF signals in the environment?

The patent application does not provide details on how the system mitigates interference from other RF signals that may affect the accuracy of positioning.

What is the range limitation of this wireless positioning technology?

The patent application does not specify the maximum range within which the wireless device can accurately determine its position using the described techniques.

Original Abstract Submitted

disclosed are techniques for wireless positioning. in an aspect, a wireless device receives one or more radio frequency (rf) signals from a transmitter device, displays a first arrow and a second arrow on a user interface of the wireless device, a direction of the first arrow representing a first angle-of-arrival (aoa) estimate of the one or more rf signals, and a direction of the second arrow representing a mirror aoa estimate of the first aoa estimate, and displays one or more notifications on the user interface instructing a user of the wireless device to move the wireless device until the direction of the first arrow is aligned with the direction of the second arrow.
