DATA EXTRACTION DEVICE, DATA EXTRACTION METHOD, AND DATA TRANSMISSION DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240135717 titled 'DATA EXTRACTION DEVICE, DATA EXTRACTION METHOD, AND DATA TRANSMISSION DEVICE

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a data extraction device that extracts images for transmission from images captured by a vehicle-mounted imaging device at regular intervals. The device determines an object to be analyzed in each image, calculates an obstruction distance, and uses this distance to determine the next extraction distance.

  • The device acquires images captured by the vehicle-mounted imaging device.
  • It identifies an object to be analyzed in each image, which is located at a position advanced by the extraction distance from the previously extracted image.
  • The device calculates an obstruction distance, indicating the actual distance from the imaging start position to an obstruction in the determined image.
  • The obstruction distance is output as the next extraction distance.
  • The device extracts the image identified as the object to be analyzed.

Potential Applications

This technology could be used in autonomous vehicles for real-time analysis of obstacles and obstructions in the vehicle's surroundings.

Problems Solved

This technology helps in improving the safety and efficiency of autonomous vehicles by accurately detecting and analyzing obstacles in their path.

Benefits

The device provides a systematic method for extracting and analyzing images of the vehicle's surroundings, leading to better decision-making and navigation capabilities for autonomous vehicles.

Potential Commercial Applications

This technology could be valuable for companies developing autonomous vehicles, as it enhances the vehicles' ability to perceive and respond to their environment effectively.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art could be similar image extraction devices used in the field of autonomous vehicles or surveillance systems.

What is the specific technology used in determining the obstruction distance?

The abstract does not provide details on the specific technology used to calculate the obstruction distance. Further information on the algorithms or sensors employed for this calculation would be beneficial.

How does the device handle varying environmental conditions that may affect image analysis?

The abstract does not mention how the device adapts to changing environmental conditions that could impact the accuracy of image analysis. Understanding the device's capabilities in different scenarios would be essential for assessing its reliability.

Original Abstract Submitted

a data extraction device, which extracts an image for transmission from images obtained by capturing surroundings outside a vehicle with an imaging device mounted on the vehicle each time the vehicle travels an extraction distance, includes: processing circuitry configured to acquire an image obtained by capturing the surroundings outside the vehicle; determine, as an object to be analyzed, an image captured at a position advanced by the extraction distance from a position at which a previously extracted image has been captured, and calculate an obstruction distance which indicates an actual distance from an imaging start position of the image having been determined as the object to be analyzed to a position of an obstruction included in the determined image; output the calculated obstruction distance as a next extraction distance; and extract the image that has been determined as the object to be analyzed.
