METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR GENERATING INCREMENTAL APPROXIMATION BACKUPS OF LIMITED ACCESS CLOUD DATA - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240134754 titled 'METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR GENERATING INCREMENTAL APPROXIMATION BACKUPS OF LIMITED ACCESS CLOUD DATA

Simplified Explanation

The method described in the abstract relates to performing data protection services for limited access cloud data. Here is a simplified explanation of the abstract:

  • Identification of protection policy events for incremental approximation backup of an object by a cloud service provider (CSP) proxy.
  • Obtaining previous object metadata and object data from on-premises cloud resources.
  • Generating slices of object data and current checksums.
  • Storing slices in backup storage if checksums do not match.
  • Updating object metadata associated with each slice.

Potential Applications

This technology can be applied in cloud computing, data protection services, and backup solutions for cloud data.

Problems Solved

This technology solves the problem of efficiently protecting and backing up limited access cloud data while ensuring data integrity and security.

Benefits

The benefits of this technology include improved data protection, efficient backup processes, and enhanced security measures for cloud data.

Potential Commercial Applications

A potential commercial application of this technology could be in offering data protection services for businesses that rely on cloud storage solutions.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art for this technology could be existing data protection methods for cloud data that may not offer the same level of efficiency and security as the method described in the patent application.

Unanswered Questions

How does this method compare to traditional backup solutions for cloud data?

This article does not provide a direct comparison between this method and traditional backup solutions for cloud data.

What are the specific security measures implemented to protect the stored backup data?

The article does not delve into the specific security measures implemented to protect the stored backup data.

Original Abstract Submitted

techniques described herein relate to a method for performing data protection services for limited access cloud data. the method includes identifying, by a cloud service provider (csp) proxy, a protection policy event associated with an incremental approximation backup of an object; in response to identifying the protection policy event: obtaining previous object metadata associated with the object; obtaining object data from on-premises cloud resources associated with the object; generating slices of the object data; generating current checksums and current object metadata associated with each slice; selecting a first slice of the slices; making a first determination that a first current checksum of the current checksums and a first previous checksum associated with the first slice do not match; in response to the first determination: storing the first slice in a backup storage; and updating a first portion of the current object metadata associated with the first slice.
