VIRTUAL CONTAINER STORAGE INTERFACE CONTROLLER - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240134526 titled 'VIRTUAL CONTAINER STORAGE INTERFACE CONTROLLER

Simplified Explanation

The patent application abstract describes a method for managing container storage attributes using a virtual container storage interface controller to isolate an application program from storage-specific drivers, providing a layer of abstraction for seamless data mobility.

  • The method involves managing container storage attributes through a virtual container storage interface controller.
  • The virtual container storage interface controller creates a generic mapping for storage attributes associated with storage arrays.
  • The method isolates an application program executing on a host device from storage-specific drivers.
  • The isolation provides a layer of abstraction for application-specific handles from the underlying storage.
  • The abstraction enables services like seamless data mobility.

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in cloud computing environments, data centers, and storage systems to improve data management and application performance.

Problems Solved

This technology solves the problem of managing storage attributes and isolating application programs from storage-specific drivers, providing a more efficient and secure way to access and manage data.

Benefits

The benefits of this technology include improved data mobility, enhanced security, simplified data management, and increased application performance.

Potential Commercial Applications

Potential commercial applications of this technology include cloud storage services, data management solutions, and storage system optimization tools.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art could be the use of virtualization technologies to manage storage resources and isolate applications from underlying hardware in data centers.

Original Abstract Submitted

techniques for container environment management are disclosed. for example, a method manages, via a virtual container storage interface controller, a generic mapping for one or more container storage attributes for a set of storage specific container storage interface drivers respectively associated with a set of storage arrays of a storage system so as to isolate an application program, executing on a host device accessing one or more storage volumes stored on the set of storage arrays, from the set of storage specific container storage interface drivers. for example, the isolation can provide a layer of abstraction for application specific handles from the actual underlying storage and then enable use of the abstraction to provide services such as, but not limited to, seamless data mobility.
