TECHNIQUES FOR MANAGING THE CELLULAR CONNECTIVITY STATE OF A SUBMERGED WIRELESS DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240090047 titled 'TECHNIQUES FOR MANAGING THE CELLULAR CONNECTIVITY STATE OF A SUBMERGED WIRELESS DEVICE

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes techniques for managing the cellular connectivity state of a submerged wireless device, which can determine when it is underwater, at what depth, and what aquatic activity the user is engaged in.

  • The wireless device includes sensors to analyze environmental conditions and determine its underwater status and activity.
  • The device uses this information to adjust its cellular connectivity state to conserve energy, by eliminating unnecessary connection attempts and reattempts.
  • Connection reattempts are executed only when appropriate and likely to succeed.

Potential Applications

This technology can be applied in various underwater activities such as swimming, snorkeling, free diving, and scuba diving. It can also be used in marine research and exploration.

Problems Solved

1. Energy wastage due to unnecessary cellular connection attempts. 2. Inefficient management of cellular connectivity in submerged wireless devices.

Benefits

1. Energy efficiency and prolonged battery life. 2. Improved user experience with optimized cellular connectivity. 3. Enhanced data collection and communication capabilities underwater.

Potential Commercial Applications

"Optimizing Cellular Connectivity for Submerged Wireless Devices" can be utilized in underwater sports equipment, marine research devices, and underwater communication systems.

Possible Prior Art

There may be existing patents or technologies related to managing connectivity in underwater devices, but specific prior art is not provided in the abstract.

Unanswered Questions

How does the wireless device determine the appropriate timing for connection reattempts?

The abstract does not detail the specific algorithms or methods used by the device to decide when to execute connection reattempts.

What types of sensors are used in the wireless device to analyze environmental conditions underwater?

The abstract mentions sensors for determining underwater status and activity, but it does not specify the types of sensors employed in the device.

Original Abstract Submitted

this application sets forth techniques for managing the cellular connectivity state of a submerged wireless device. the wireless device can include sensors that analyze environmental conditions to determine when the wireless device is (or is not) submerged underwater as well as at what depth the wireless device is submerged underwater. the sensors can also determine different types of aquatic activity in which a user of the wireless device is currently engaged, such as swimming, snorkeling, free diving, and scuba diving. in turn, the wireless device can utilize this information to manage its cellular connectivity state in order to avoid wasteful consumptions of energy. in particular, the techniques enable the submerged wireless device to eliminate any existing cellular connection as well as connection reattempts so long as they are unlikely to succeed. moreover, the techniques enable the wireless device to execute connection reattempts when they are appropriate and likely to succeed.
