ELECTRODES FOR BATTERIES - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240055576 titled 'ELECTRODES FOR BATTERIES

Simplified Explanation

- Method for making an electrode for a battery - Provide a current collector with a surface - Arrange extruded electrode elements on the current collector surface - Each electrode element has a defined height above the current collector surface - Neighbouring electrode elements are separated by a spacing - Compress the electrode elements to reduce their height and close the spacing until neighbouring elements meet to form an electrode layer

Potential Applications

- Battery manufacturing - Energy storage systems - Electric vehicles

Problems Solved

- Efficient electrode production - Improved battery performance - Enhanced energy storage capabilities

Benefits

- Increased battery efficiency - Cost-effective electrode manufacturing - Enhanced energy storage capacity

Original Abstract Submitted

a method for making an electrode for a battery includes: providing a current collector having a current collector surface; forming an electrode precursor by arranging a plurality of extruded electrode elements on the current collector surface, each electrode element defining an element height above the current collector surface, and neighbouring electrode elements being separated by a spacing; and forming an electrode from the electrode precursor by compressing the electrode elements, thereby reducing the element height of each electrode element and closing the spacing until neighbouring electrode elements meet to form an electrode layer.
