SIMULATOR AND SIMULATION METHOD WITH INCREASED PRECISION, IN PARTICULAR A WEAPON SYSTEM SIMULATOR, AND WEAPON SYSTEM PROVIDED WITH SUCH A SIMULATOR - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240054910 titled 'SIMULATOR AND SIMULATION METHOD WITH INCREASED PRECISION, IN PARTICULAR A WEAPON SYSTEM SIMULATOR, AND WEAPON SYSTEM PROVIDED WITH SUCH A SIMULATOR

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a simulator and simulation method for a weapon system with increased precision. The simulator includes units for generating virtual images, capturing images from real actors equipped with retroreflectors, comparing images to determine errors, and resetting references to correct errors.

  • Unit for generating virtual images defined by orientation and sighting references
  • Unit for generating captured images from angle-error and telemetry measurements of real actors with retroreflectors
  • Comparison unit for comparing virtual and captured images to determine errors
  • Resetting unit for correcting errors by resetting orientation and sighting references
    • Potential Applications:**

- Military training simulations - Weapon system development and testing - Virtual reality training for marksmanship

    • Problems Solved:**

- Lack of precision in weapon system simulations - Difficulty in accurately assessing orientation and sighting errors - Inefficient training methods for weapon system operators

    • Benefits:**

- Increased precision in weapon system simulations - Improved accuracy in assessing orientation and sighting errors - Enhanced training effectiveness for weapon system operators

Original Abstract Submitted

disclosed is a simulator and simulation method with increased precision, in particular a weapon system simulator, and weapon system provided with such a simulator. —the simulator () comprises a unit for generating a virtual image (i) which is defined according to an orientation reference and a sighting reference, a unit for generating a so-called captured image from angle-error and telemetry measurements relating to one or more real actors (r to r) each of which is equipped with a retroreflector (), the angle-error and telemetry measurements being performed using a rangefinder, a comparison unit for comparing the current virtual image (i) and the captured image so as to determine an error value representative of an orientation and/or sighting error, and a resetting unit for resetting the orientation reference and/or the sighting reference in order to correct said error value so as to create an optimised virtual image which is displayed on the vision element () in place of the current virtual image.
