DOME-LOADED PRESSURE REDUCING REGULATOR FOR SINGLE USE APPLICATIONS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240053779 titled 'DOME-LOADED PRESSURE REDUCING REGULATOR FOR SINGLE USE APPLICATIONS

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a centerbody assembly for a pressure regulator, which includes the following components:

  • Centerbody with a process surface and at least one outlet orifice
  • Outlet port in fluid communication with the outlet orifice
  • Inlet port
  • Valve chamber with a valve seat in fluid communication with the process surface
  • Spherical valve element movable between open and closed positions
  • Flexible control diaphragm bonded to the centerbody to block fluid passage
  • Mechanical interconnection between the valve element and control diaphragm

Potential Applications:

  • Pressure regulation in industrial processes
  • Gas and liquid flow control in various systems
  • HVAC systems
  • Water treatment plants

Problems Solved:

  • Ensures precise control of pressure in a system
  • Prevents leaks and ensures efficient operation
  • Provides reliable performance over time

Benefits:

  • Improved accuracy in pressure regulation
  • Enhanced safety in systems handling high pressures
  • Longer lifespan of equipment due to reduced wear and tear

Original Abstract Submitted

a centerbody assembly for a pressure regulator includes: a centerbody having a process surface, at least one outlet orifice disposed in the centerbody; an outlet port positioned in fluid communication with the at least one outlet orifice; an inlet port; a valve chamber positioned in the centerbody in fluid communication with the inlet port, the valve chamber including a valve seat positioned in fluid communication with the process surface; a spherical valve element disposed in the valve chamber and moveable between an open position in which it is spaced away from the valve seat, and a closed position in which it seals against the valve seat; a flexible control diaphragm facing the process surface, wherein a perimeter of the control diaphragm is bonded to the centerbody so as to define a seal that blocks the passage of fluid; and wherein the valve element is mechanically interconnected with the control diaphragm.
