POWER TOOTHBRUSH CONTROL - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240050211 titled 'POWER TOOTHBRUSH CONTROL

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a patent application for a power toothbrush that includes a motor for driving a brush head and a controller that responds to an operating mode selection signal to control the motor. The controller also includes a timer to track the total duration of a tooth brushing session and can calculate an average total duration based on stored prior session times. It can then set a target value based on the calculated average and generate a sensory output during a brushing session to encourage the user to continue brushing.

  • The power toothbrush includes a motor for driving the brush head and a controller to control the motor.
  • The controller has a timer to track the total duration of a tooth brushing session.
  • In a feedback mode, the controller can calculate an average total duration based on stored prior session times.
  • The controller sets a target value based on the calculated average and generates a sensory output during a brushing session when the duration reaches the target value to encourage the user to continue brushing.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Oral hygiene products and devices
  • Dental care industry
  • Personal care products

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Encourages users to brush their teeth for an optimal duration
  • Helps improve oral hygiene habits
  • Provides feedback and motivation during tooth brushing sessions

Benefits of this technology:

  • Promotes better oral health
  • Helps prevent dental issues
  • Encourages consistent and effective tooth brushing habits

Original Abstract Submitted

a power toothbrush () is disclosed comprising a motor () for driving a brush head () of the power toothbrush and a controller () responsive to an operating mode selection signal and arranged to control said motor. the controller comprises a timer () for timing a total duration of a tooth brushing session with said power toothbrush and is adapted to, in a feedback mode of operation, calculate an average total duration of a tooth brushing session based on stored prior tooth brushing session times; define a target value based on the calculated average total duration and cause the generation of a sensory output during a tooth brushing session upon its duration reaching the target value to encourage the user to carry on brushing. also disclosed is a method of evaluating tooth brushing session data generated by such a power toothbrush, a computer program product for implementing such a method, an electronic device adapted to implement such a method and an oral hygiene kit.
