METHOD FOR USING WHITE LIGHT SOURCE, AND WHITE LIGHT SOURCE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240044459 titled 'METHOD FOR USING WHITE LIGHT SOURCE, AND WHITE LIGHT SOURCE

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method for using a white light source to achieve precise control of daily rhythm and pleasant lighting in a living space. The method involves emitting different amounts of stimulation light from the white light source to the intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs) and visual cells of the L cone and M cone in the human eye. The ratio of the amounts of stimulation light is determined by the emission spectrum of the white light source and the radiation spectrum of a black body with the same color temperature. By changing the emission intensity of the white light source, the amount of stimulation light emitted to the ipRGC can be quantitatively adjusted.

  • The method allows for precise control of daily rhythm and pleasant lighting in a living space.
  • Different amounts of stimulation light are emitted to specific cells in the human eye.
  • The ratio of stimulation light is determined by the emission spectrum of the white light source and the radiation spectrum of a black body.
  • The emission intensity of the white light source can be adjusted to change the amount of stimulation light emitted to the ipRGC.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Residential lighting systems that can provide precise control of daily rhythm and create a pleasant lighting environment in homes.
  • Lighting systems in healthcare facilities to support patient well-being and recovery.
  • Workplace lighting systems that can enhance productivity and employee well-being by aligning with natural circadian rhythms.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Lack of control over daily rhythm and lighting in living spaces.
  • Inadequate lighting conditions that can negatively impact human health and well-being.
  • Limited options for adjusting lighting to individual preferences and needs.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved sleep quality and regulation of circadian rhythms.
  • Enhanced well-being and mood through the use of pleasant lighting.
  • Customizable lighting options to suit individual preferences and needs.
  • Potential energy savings by optimizing lighting conditions based on specific requirements.

Original Abstract Submitted

provided are a method for using a white light source, and a white light source, wherein precise control of daily rhythm and pleasant lighting can be safely and easily realized in a place of living such as a general home. an embodiment provides a method for using a white light source. provided that: amounts of stimulation light emitted from a white light source to the intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (iprgcs) and visual cells of the l cone and m cone, among the visual cells of human, are defined as a melanopic irradiance, an l-cone opic irradiance, and an m-cone opic irradiance, respectively; a ratio of the amounts of the stimulation light is expressed by the following formula (1); and a is the ratio corresponding to the emission spectrum of the white light source, and b is the ratio corresponding to the radiation spectrum of a black body having the same color temperature as the white light source, an amount of stimulation light emitted to the iprgc is quantitatively changed by changing the emission intensity of the white light source satisfying the following formula (2).
