LOW HEIGHT PROXIMITY-BASED OPTICAL CODE READER - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240037355 titled 'LOW HEIGHT PROXIMITY-BASED OPTICAL CODE READER

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a system for optically reading an encoded pattern on a patterned test strip or target. The system includes an LED light source, a transmit baffle, a photodetector, a receive baffle, and signal processing circuitry.

  • The LED light source emits light that passes through a transmit aperture in the transmit baffle and illuminates a target location on the patterned target.
  • The photodetector receives the light associated with the target location and produces a response signal.
  • The receive baffle defines a receive aperture that allows the light from the target to pass to the photodetector.
  • The signal processing circuitry decodes the information about the encoded pattern based on the response signal.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Medical diagnostics: The system can be used to read encoded patterns on test strips for various medical tests, such as glucose monitoring or pregnancy tests.
  • Quality control: The system can be used in manufacturing processes to read encoded patterns on products to ensure they meet quality standards.
  • Security systems: The system can be used to read encoded patterns on identification cards or documents for authentication purposes.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Efficient reading of encoded patterns: The system provides a reliable and accurate way to read encoded patterns on patterned targets, allowing for quick and efficient analysis.
  • Non-contact reading: The system does not require physical contact with the patterned target, reducing the risk of damage or contamination.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Accuracy: The system provides precise decoding of the encoded pattern, ensuring reliable results.
  • Speed: The system can quickly read the encoded pattern, allowing for efficient analysis.
  • Versatility: The system can be used with different types of patterned targets, making it adaptable to various applications.

Original Abstract Submitted

a system for optically reading an encoded pattern on a patterned test strip or other patterned target placed in proximity and moved with respect to an optical code reader. the reader can include an led light source. a transmit baffle located between the led light source and the target can define a transmit aperture for passing light originating from the led light source to a target location on the patterned target. a photodetector arranged to receive light associated with the target location can produce a response signal providing information about the encoded pattern at the target location. a receive baffle located between the photodetector and the target can define a receive aperture for passing light from the target to the photodetector. signal processing circuitry can be coupled to the photodetector to receive the response signal, and to decode information about the encoded pattern.
