ELECTRONIC DEVICE AND METHOD, IN ELECTRONIC DEVICE, FOR DETERMINING WHETHER OBJECT IS NEAR - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240036182 titled 'ELECTRONIC DEVICE AND METHOD, IN ELECTRONIC DEVICE, FOR DETERMINING WHETHER OBJECT IS NEAR

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes an electronic device that includes an application processor with an audio processing module and a voice recognition module, a microphone, a speaker, and a sensor hub. When the audio processing module is in a sleep state, the sensor hub generates an ultrasonic signal and provides it to the speaker, which outputs a first signal including the ultrasonic signal. The device also receives a second signal from the voice recognition module through the microphone and determines whether an object is near the device based on the first and second signals.

  • The electronic device includes an application processor with audio processing and voice recognition modules.
  • It has a microphone, speaker, and sensor hub.
  • The sensor hub generates an ultrasonic signal and provides it to the speaker.
  • The speaker outputs a first signal including the ultrasonic signal.
  • The device receives a second signal from the voice recognition module through the microphone.
  • It determines if an object is near the device based on the first and second signals.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Object detection and proximity sensing in electronic devices.
  • Voice recognition and control in electronic devices.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Improved object detection and proximity sensing capabilities in electronic devices.
  • Enhanced voice recognition and control functionality.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Increased convenience and usability of electronic devices.
  • Improved user experience through accurate object detection and voice recognition.

Original Abstract Submitted

an electronic device, according to various embodiments, includes: an application processor including an audio processing module and a voice recognition module; a mic; a speaker; and a sensor hub. while the audio processing module included in the application processor is in a sleep state, the sensor hub generates an ultrasonic signal and provides the ultrasonic signal to the speaker so that the speaker outputs a first signal including the ultrasonic signal therethrough; receives, from the voice recognition module, a second signal inputted through the mic; and determines whether an object is near the electronic device, at least on the basis of the first signal and the second signal.
