DIGITAL FINGERPRINTING - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240029083 titled 'DIGITAL FINGERPRINTING

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method for authenticating an article of clothing using a machine-readable identifier. Here are the key points:

  • The article of clothing has a machine-readable identifier on its exterior surface.
  • The identifier is a digitally printed image with predefined discrete areas containing ciphers.
  • The ciphers can be symbols, colors, or geometric shapes, which represent the authenticity of the clothing.
  • The method involves scanning the identifier to detect the ciphers.
  • The scan is processed to extract the encryption key.
  • A digital token associated with the clothing is accessed using the extracted encryption key.
  • The article of clothing is authenticated based on the authentication of the digital token.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Counterfeit detection: The method can be used to verify the authenticity of clothing items, helping to prevent the sale of counterfeit products.
  • Brand protection: Clothing brands can use this method to ensure that their products are genuine, protecting their reputation and intellectual property.
  • Supply chain management: The machine-readable identifier can be used to track and authenticate clothing items throughout the supply chain, reducing the risk of counterfeit or unauthorized products entering the market.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Counterfeit clothing: The method provides a way to detect and prevent the sale of counterfeit clothing items, protecting consumers and legitimate brands.
  • Trust and authenticity: By providing a reliable authentication method, consumers can have confidence in the genuineness of the clothing they purchase.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Consumer trust: The method allows consumers to verify the authenticity of clothing items, ensuring they are purchasing genuine products.
  • Brand protection: Clothing brands can protect their reputation and intellectual property by implementing this authentication method.
  • Supply chain transparency: The machine-readable identifier enables better tracking and authentication of clothing items throughout the supply chain, improving transparency and reducing the risk of counterfeit products.

Original Abstract Submitted

a method of authenticating an article of clothing includes providing a machine-readable identifier on an exterior surface of an article of clothing, the machine-readable identifier includes a digitally printed image having a plurality of predefined discrete areas with one or more ciphers. the ciphers include at least one of a symbol, a color, or a geometric shape, and are representative of an authenticity of the article of clothing. the method further includes receiving a scan of the machine-readable identifier to detect the ciphers, processing the scan of the machine-readable identifier to extract the encryption key, accessing a digital token associated with the article of clothing using the extracted encryption key, and authenticating the article of clothing based on authentication of the digital token.
