TONER - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240019792 titled 'TONER

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a toner composition that includes toner particles with protruded portions made of an organosilicon polymer on the surface of the toner base particle. The protruded portions have a height of 30 to 200 nm and an average aspect ratio of 1.3 or more. The surface roughness of the toner particle is analyzed using an atomic force microscope, and the average angle of inclination is found to be 1.0 to 2.0 degrees.

  • The toner composition includes toner particles with protruded portions made of an organosilicon polymer.
  • The protruded portions have a height of 30 to 200 nm.
  • The average aspect ratio of the protruded portions is 1.3 or more.
  • The surface roughness of the toner particle is analyzed using an atomic force microscope.
  • The average angle of inclination of the surface is 1.0 to 2.0 degrees.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Improved print quality and resolution in laser printers and photocopiers.
  • Enhanced adhesion of toner particles to paper surfaces.
  • Reduced toner waste and improved toner transfer efficiency.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Uneven toner distribution and poor print quality.
  • Toner particles not adhering properly to paper surfaces.
  • Inefficient use of toner leading to increased costs and waste.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Higher print quality and resolution.
  • Improved toner adhesion and durability.
  • Cost savings through reduced toner waste and improved efficiency.

Original Abstract Submitted

a toner comprising a toner particle comprising: a toner base particle comprising a binder resin; and an organosilicon polymer at a surface of the toner base particle, wherein protruded portions constituted from the organosilicon polymer are present at the surface of the toner base particle, when a protruded portion having a height of 30 to 200 nm among the protruded portions is defined as a protrusion x, and the protrusion x is observed in a specific condition using a scanning electron microscope, an average aspect ratio of the protrusion x is 1.3 or more, and when shape measurements of a specific region of the surface of the toner particle are carried out using an atomic force microscope and measured data obtained by observing the protruded portions at the surface of the toner particle is subjected to surface roughness analysis, an average angle of inclination a is 1.0 to 2.0.
