SYSTEM FOR MAINTAINING REVERSIBLE DYNAMIC RANGE CONTROL INFORMATION ASSOCIATED WITH PARAMETRIC AUDIO CODERS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240018844 titled 'SYSTEM FOR MAINTAINING REVERSIBLE DYNAMIC RANGE CONTROL INFORMATION ASSOCIATED WITH PARAMETRIC AUDIO CODERS

Simplified Explanation

The abstract of the patent application describes a method for reconstructing an audio signal from a bitstream by deriving a core signal and coding parameters. It also includes pre-processing dynamic range control parameters to limit the dynamic range of the core signal. The reconstructed audio signal is obtained by parametric synthesis based on the coding parameters while canceling any dynamic range limiting applied during encoding.

  • The patent application proposes a method for reconstructing an audio signal from a bitstream.
  • The method involves deriving a core signal and coding parameters from the bitstream.
  • Pre-processing dynamic range control parameters are also derived to limit the dynamic range of the core signal.
  • The reconstructed audio signal is obtained by parametric synthesis using the coding parameters.
  • Any dynamic range limiting applied during encoding is canceled based on the pre-processing dynamic range control parameters.

Potential Applications:

  • Audio compression and decompression algorithms.
  • Multichannel audio encoding and decoding systems.
  • Streaming services and platforms.
  • Audio production and post-production tools.

Problems Solved:

  • Efficient compression and transmission of multichannel audio signals.
  • Maintaining the dynamic range of the audio signal during encoding and decoding.
  • Providing a high-quality audio experience while reducing the data size.

Benefits:

  • Improved audio quality and fidelity.
  • Reduced data size for storage and transmission.
  • Enhanced control over the dynamic range of the audio signal.
  • Compatibility with existing audio systems and formats.

Original Abstract Submitted

on the basis of a bitstream (p), an n-channel audio signal (x) is reconstructed by deriving an m-channel core signal (y) and multichannel coding parameters (a) from the bitstream, where 1≤m<n. also derived from the bitstream are pre-processing dynamic range control, drc, parameters (drc) quantifying an encoder-side dynamic range limiting of the core signal. the n-channel audio signal is obtained by parametric synthesis in accordance with the multichannel coding parameters and while cancelling any encoder-side dynamic range limiting based on the pre-processing drc parameters.
