AUTOMATIC DRONE POSITIONING SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240017858 titled 'AUTOMATIC DRONE POSITIONING SYSTEM

Simplified Explanation

The present invention is a system for automatically positioning a drone on a landing/take-off site. The system includes a landing area defined by an outer boundary and is designed to position and align a drone, which can be landed at any location on the landing area, at a predetermined position on the landing area.

  • The system comprises a rope sling that extends along the outer boundary of the landing area in its initial position.
  • The ends of the rope sling are connected to a rope winch located near or at the predetermined position.
  • When the rope winch is actuated, the rope sling can be retracted.
  • The drone is equipped with engagement means that can be engaged with the retracted rope sling.
  • As the rope sling is further retracted, the drone is pulled to the predetermined position and correctly aligned.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Automated drone landing and take-off systems for various industries such as delivery, surveillance, and inspection.
  • Military operations where precise positioning and alignment of drones are crucial.
  • Emergency response situations where drones need to be quickly deployed and positioned accurately.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Manual positioning and alignment of drones can be time-consuming and prone to errors.
  • Ensuring drones are correctly aligned at predetermined positions is important for their effective operation.
  • This system eliminates the need for human intervention in positioning and aligning drones.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Increased efficiency and accuracy in drone operations.
  • Reduces the risk of human error during drone positioning.
  • Enables automated and precise deployment of drones in various scenarios.

Original Abstract Submitted

the present invention relates generally to a system for automatically positioning a drone () on a landing/take-off site () comprising a landing area defined by an outer boundary, wherein the system is configured to position and align a drone (), landed at any location on the landing area, at a predetermined position on the landing area, wherein the system comprises a rope sling () which, in its initial position, extends substantially along the outer boundary of the landing area, and the ends of which are connected to a rope winch () located near or at the predetermined position, so that the rope sling can be retracted when the rope winch is actuated, and wherein the drone is provided with engagement means () configured to be engageable with the rope sling () when the rope sling () is retracted, so that the drone () is pulled to the predetermined position and is correctly aligned at the predetermined position upon further retraction of the rope sling ().
