ATTENDEE STATE TRANSITIONING FOR LARGE-SCALE VIDEO CONFERENCING - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240015041 titled 'ATTENDEE STATE TRANSITIONING FOR LARGE-SCALE VIDEO CONFERENCING

Simplified Explanation

The technology disclosed in this patent application is related to hosting virtual conferences with multiple attendees. The attendees are divided into two categories: those with interactive broadcast access and those with view-only broadcast access.

  • Interactive broadcast access allows attendees in the first category to share their audio and/or video with all attendees.
  • View-only broadcast access allows attendees in the second category to receive audio and/or video from at least one attendee in the first category, but they cannot share their own audio and/or video.
  • If a given attendee in the second category requests to transition to interactive broadcast access, they are allowed to do so.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Virtual conferences and meetings where some attendees need to actively participate and share their audio and/or video, while others only need to passively observe.
  • Webinars or online presentations where the presenter can control who can share their audio and/or video and who can only view.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Ensures that only designated attendees can actively participate and share their audio and/or video, preventing unauthorized sharing.
  • Provides a seamless transition for attendees who initially join as view-only but later want to actively participate.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Allows for more interactive and engaging virtual conferences by enabling some attendees to actively participate and share their audio and/or video.
  • Provides flexibility for attendees to choose their level of participation, enhancing the overall conference experience.

Original Abstract Submitted

the technology disclosed relates to hosting a virtual conference with a plurality of attendees, such that attendees in a first category have an interactive broadcast access to the virtual conference, and attendees in a second category have a view-only broadcast access to the virtual conference. the interactive broadcast access allows the attendees in the first category to share their audio and/or video with the plurality of attendees. the view-only broadcast access allows the attendees in the second category to receive audio and/or video from at least one attendee in the first category, and prevents the attendees in the second category from sharing their audio and/or video with the plurality of attendees. in response to a transition request received from a given attendee in the second category, the given attendee is transitioned from the view-only broadcast access to the interactive broadcast access.
