VIRTUAL RECOMMENDATION SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240013277 titled 'VIRTUAL RECOMMENDATION SYSTEM

Simplified Explanation

This patent application is about methods and systems for presenting virtual recommendations for objects, specifically in augmented reality (AR) or virtual reality (VR) environments. The method involves guiding a user interacting with an object by receiving a stream of images of the scene from a camera of an AR device, identifying the object in the images, retrieving a set of recommendations for the object from a data store, extracting contextual information from the images, selecting a recommendation based on the contextual information, and sending the recommendation to the AR device for presentation on its display.

  • The patent application focuses on presenting virtual recommendations for objects in AR or VR environments.
  • The method involves using a camera on an AR device to capture images of a scene, identifying the object in the images, and retrieving recommendations for the object from a data store.
  • Contextual information from the images is extracted to help select a relevant recommendation.
  • The selected recommendation is then sent to the AR device for presentation on its display.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • E-commerce: Users can receive virtual recommendations for products they are interested in while shopping in AR or VR environments.
  • Tourism: Travelers can receive virtual recommendations for attractions, restaurants, or accommodations while exploring a new city using AR or VR.
  • Gaming: Players can receive virtual recommendations for in-game items or strategies to enhance their gaming experience in AR or VR games.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Lack of personalized recommendations: This technology provides users with tailored recommendations based on the context of their interaction with an object.
  • Information overload: By presenting virtual recommendations, users can easily access relevant information without being overwhelmed by excessive options.
  • Enhanced user experience: Users can receive real-time recommendations in AR or VR environments, improving their overall experience and decision-making process.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Personalization: Users receive recommendations based on their specific needs and preferences, enhancing their overall satisfaction.
  • Convenience: Virtual recommendations are presented directly in the AR or VR environment, eliminating the need to switch between different platforms or devices.
  • Improved decision-making: Users can make more informed decisions by accessing relevant recommendations in real-time while interacting with an object.

Original Abstract Submitted

in general terms, this disclosure is directed to methods and systems for presenting virtual recommendations for objects. in some embodiments, the recommendations are presented in augmented reality (ar). in other embodiments, the recommendations are presented in virtual reality (vr). one aspect is a method for guiding a user interacting with an object, the method comprising receiving, from a camera of an augmented reality (ar) device, a stream of images of a scene including the object, identifying the object in the stream of images, retrieving a set of recommendations for the object from an object recommendation data store, extracting contextual information from the stream of images, selecting a recommendation from the set of recommendations based at least in part on the contextual information, and sending to the ar device the recommendation for presenting in ar on a display of the ar device.
