METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR USAGE-CONDITIONED ACCESS CONTROL BASED ON A BLOCKCHAIN WALLET - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240013202 titled 'METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR USAGE-CONDITIONED ACCESS CONTROL BASED ON A BLOCKCHAIN WALLET

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes methods and systems for access control to online resources using non-fungible token gating. Here is a simplified explanation of the abstract:

  • The system receives a request from a user device, which may trigger an access control rule with a token-based condition.
  • It verifies the token-based condition by checking the user device's wallet address and blockchain data from a first blockchain network.
  • If a non-fungible token meeting the condition is associated with the wallet address, it obtains data from a second blockchain network.
  • Based on the data from the second blockchain network, it determines that the non-fungible token is not exhausted from previous use.
  • The system then processes the user's request and mints a token on the second blockchain to record the usage of the non-fungible token in an access control operation.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Access control to online resources, such as digital content, platforms, or services.
  • Secure authentication and authorization mechanisms for user devices.
  • Token-based gating for membership or subscription-based platforms.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Ensures that only users with specific non-fungible tokens meeting certain conditions can access online resources.
  • Provides a secure and decentralized method of access control using blockchain technology.
  • Prevents unauthorized access or usage of online resources.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Enhanced security and privacy for online resources.
  • Efficient and reliable access control mechanisms.
  • Ability to track and record the usage of non-fungible tokens for auditing purposes.

Original Abstract Submitted

methods and systems for access control to online resources based on non-fungible token gating. a request from a user device may trigger an access control rule having a token-based condition. the system verifies satisfaction of the token-based condition based on a wallet address provided by the user device and blockchain data obtained from a first blockchain network confirming that a non-fungible token meeting the token-based condition is associated with the wallet address. it then obtains data associated with a second blockchain network based on the non-fungible token and, in response, determines, based on the data associated with the second blockchain network, that the non-fungible token is not exhausted due to previous use of the non-fungible token. the system then processes the request from the user device and causes minting of a token on the second blockchain recording usage of the non-fungible token in an access control operation.
