SWIVEL ASSEMBLY FORMED OF A CORROSION-RESISTANT MATERIAL - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240011587 titled 'SWIVEL ASSEMBLY FORMED OF A CORROSION-RESISTANT MATERIAL

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a swivel assembly for oilfield operations, which includes two pipe sections connected by a swivel joint. One or both of the pipe sections are made of a corrosion-resistant material, while the swivel joint is made of a different material with a different hardness.

  • The swivel assembly is designed for oilfield operations.
  • It consists of two pipe sections connected by a swivel joint.
  • The pipe sections have end fittings that correspond to each other.
  • The end fittings have inner and outer surfaces.
  • The swivel joint securely holds the pipe sections together along a central axis.
  • The assembly defines a fluid passageway for the flow of fluids.
  • One or both of the pipe sections are made of a corrosion-resistant material.
  • The corrosion-resistant material has a specific hardness.
  • The swivel joint is made of a different material with a different hardness.

Potential Applications:

  • Oilfield operations and drilling activities.
  • Any industry requiring a swivel assembly for fluid transfer.

Problems Solved:

  • Corrosion resistance in oilfield operations.
  • Ensuring a secure connection between pipe sections.
  • Facilitating fluid flow through the assembly.

Benefits:

  • Increased durability and longevity due to corrosion-resistant materials.
  • Improved fluid transfer efficiency.
  • Reduced maintenance and replacement costs.
  • Enhanced reliability and safety in oilfield operations.

Original Abstract Submitted

a swivel assembly for oilfield operations, the swivel assembly including a first pipe section having a first end fitting and a second pipe section having a second end fitting corresponding to and receiving the first end fitting, each of the first and second end fittings having an inner surface and an outer surface. the swivel assembly further includes a swivel joint rotatably securing, via the corresponding first and second end fittings, the first and second pipe sections together along a central axis to define a fluid passageway therethrough. at least a portion of one of the first pipe section and the second pipe section is formed of a corrosion-resistant material having a first hardness and at least a portion of the swivel joint is formed having a second hardness different from the first hardness.
