BOTTOM FORMING PROCESS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240010543 titled 'BOTTOM FORMING PROCESS

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a process for preparing a glass container from a glass tube in a glass processing machine. The process involves heating the glass tube at a specific position and pulling apart the tube to separate it into two portions, forming a closed bottom at one end of the first portion. Then, a mold matrix of the glass processing machine is moved towards the closed bottom and brought into contact with it. During this contact, the distance between the mold matrix and a first clamping chuck of the machine is decreased stepwise.

  • The process involves heating a glass tube and separating it into two portions to form a closed bottom.
  • A mold matrix is then brought into contact with the closed bottom.
  • The distance between the mold matrix and a clamping chuck is decreased stepwise during contact.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Glass container manufacturing industry
  • Glass packaging industry
  • Laboratory glassware production

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Efficient and precise formation of glass containers
  • Improved control over the molding process
  • Reduction in manual labor and production time

Benefits of this technology:

  • Increased production efficiency
  • Enhanced product quality and consistency
  • Cost savings through automation and reduced labor requirements

Original Abstract Submitted

a process for the preparation of a glass container from a glass tube in a glass processing machine includes the steps of: i) heating the glass tube at a defined position between a first portion and a second portion to a temperature above a glass transition temperature of the glass tube while the glass tube is rotating around its longitudinal axis land pulling apart the first portion and the second portion thereby separating the first portion from the second portion and forming a closed bottom at one end of the first portion; and ii) moving a mold matrix of the glass processing machine towards the closed bottom and bringing the mold matrix into contact with the closed bottom. while bringing the mold matrix into contact with the closed bottom, a distance ybetween the mold matrix and a first clamping chuck of the glass processing machine is decreased stepwise.
