CROP MANAGEMENT - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240008403 titled 'CROP MANAGEMENT

Simplified Explanation

The abstract of this patent application describes a method for determining the effect of a sieving operation on the protein concentration of a lot of agricultural grain kernels. The method involves obtaining a sample of the grain kernels, determining the kernel protein concentration and mass as functions of kernel size, and then using these functions to determine the kernel protein mass. Finally, the second and third functions are used to determine the effect of the sieving operation on the protein concentration of the grain kernels.

  • The method involves obtaining a sample of agricultural grain kernels.
  • The kernel protein concentration is determined as a function of kernel size.
  • The kernel mass is determined as a function of kernel size.
  • The kernel protein mass is determined using the first and second functions.
  • The effect of a sieving operation on the protein concentration of the grain kernels is determined using the second and third functions.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Quality control in the agricultural industry: This method can be used to assess the protein concentration of grain kernels after a sieving operation, allowing for quality control measures to be implemented.
  • Optimization of grain processing: By understanding the effect of sieving on protein concentration, grain processing operations can be optimized to achieve desired protein levels in the final product.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Lack of information on the effect of sieving on protein concentration: This method provides a way to determine the impact of a sieving operation on the protein concentration of grain kernels, which was previously not easily quantifiable.
  • Inefficient grain processing: By understanding the effect of sieving on protein concentration, grain processing operations can be adjusted to minimize protein loss and improve efficiency.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved quality control: The method allows for accurate assessment of protein concentration in grain kernels, ensuring consistent quality in agricultural products.
  • Increased efficiency: By optimizing grain processing operations based on the effect of sieving on protein concentration, efficiency can be improved, leading to cost savings and higher productivity.

Original Abstract Submitted

according to an example aspect of the present invention, there is provided a method comprising obtaining a sample of a lot of agricultural grain kernels, determining, from the sample, a kernel protein concentration as a first function of kernel size, determining, from the sample, a kernel mass as a second function of kernel size, determining, from the first function and the second function, a kernel protein mass as a third function of kernel size, and determining, from the second function and the third function, an effect of a sieving operation on a protein concentration of the lot of agricultural grain kernels.
