VIDEO PRELOADING METHOD AND APPARATUS, DEVICE AND MEDIUM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18546027 titled 'VIDEO PRELOADING METHOD AND APPARATUS, DEVICE AND MEDIUM

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method and apparatus for preloading videos based on the length of buffered video, with the goal of improving user experience by seamlessly transitioning between videos.

  • The method involves creating and executing a preloading task when the length of buffered video reaches a certain value, to preload a subsequent video.
  • If the length of buffered video drops below a certain value during the preloading task execution, the task is cancelled to prevent unnecessary data usage.
  • The innovation aims to enhance video streaming services by optimizing the preloading process and ensuring smooth playback for users.

Potential Applications

This technology can be applied in video streaming platforms, online video players, and any application that involves the sequential playback of videos.

Problems Solved

1. Seamless transition between videos. 2. Efficient preloading of subsequent videos to reduce buffering interruptions.

Benefits

1. Improved user experience with uninterrupted video playback. 2. Optimal use of network resources by preloading videos effectively.

Potential Commercial Applications

Optimizing video streaming services, enhancing user engagement on video platforms, and improving the overall performance of video playback applications.

Possible Prior Art

There may be existing methods for preloading videos based on buffer length, but the specific approach outlined in this patent application may offer unique advantages in terms of efficiency and user experience.

Unanswered Questions

How does this method handle different video formats or resolutions during preloading?

The patent application does not specify how the preloading task adapts to varying video formats or resolutions, which could impact the overall performance of the system.

What measures are in place to ensure data privacy and security during the preloading process?

The patent application does not address potential concerns related to data privacy and security while preloading videos, which could be crucial for user trust and compliance with regulations.

Original Abstract Submitted

Provided are a video preloading method and apparatus, a device, and a medium. The method includes: in response to determining that a length of a buffered video reaches a first numerical value, creating and executing a preloading task, where the buffered video is a current video that is buffered and is to be played, and the preloading task is used for preloading a subsequent video; and in an execution process of the preloading task, in response to determining that the length of the buffered video is less than or equal to a second numerical value, cancelling the preloading task, where the second numerical value is less than the first numerical value.
