COMMUNICATION METHOD, APPARATUS, AND SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18543216 titled 'COMMUNICATION METHOD, APPARATUS, AND SYSTEM

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a communication method and apparatus for transmitting data from a multicast and broadcast service (MBS) to a terminal device through a relay terminal device using sidelink (SL) resources.

  • First terminal device obtains first information including MBS service identifier and SL resource information.
  • Mapping relationship exists between MBS service identifier and SL resource information.
  • First terminal device receives data of MBS sent by relay terminal device based on SL resource information.
  • First terminal device can transmit MBS data when relay terminal device supports MBS service.

Potential Applications

This technology can be applied in various scenarios where efficient transmission of multicast and broadcast services to terminal devices is required, such as in public safety communications, emergency alerts, live event broadcasting, and content delivery networks.

Problems Solved

1. Efficient transmission of multicast and broadcast services to terminal devices. 2. Utilization of sidelink resources for data transmission in relay scenarios.

Benefits

1. Improved reliability and coverage of multicast and broadcast services. 2. Enhanced efficiency in data transmission using sidelink resources. 3. Seamless integration with existing relay terminal devices supporting MBS services.

Potential Commercial Applications

"Enhanced Multicast and Broadcast Service Transmission Using Sidelink Resources" can find applications in telecommunications, public safety, entertainment, and content distribution industries for delivering high-quality, reliable multicast and broadcast services to a large number of users simultaneously.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art could be the use of dedicated multicast and broadcast services in cellular networks for delivering content to multiple users efficiently. Another could be the utilization of sidelink resources for direct communication between devices in proximity without going through the base station.

Original Abstract Submitted

A communication method and apparatus, and a system. A first terminal device obtains first information, where the first information includes a first multicast and broadcast service MBS service identifier and first sidelink SL resource information. A mapping relationship exists between the first MBS service identifier and the first SL resource information. A first MBS is an MBS supported by a first relay terminal device, and the first SL resource information is usable for transmitting data of the first MB S to the first terminal device. The first terminal device receives, based on the first SL resource information, the data that is of the first MBS and that is sent by the first relay terminal device. The first terminal device transmits MBS data in a scenario in which a relay terminal device supports an MBS service.
