NEURAL RADIANCE FIELD RIG FOR HUMAN 3D SHAPE AND APPEARANCE MODELLING - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18520110 titled 'NEURAL RADIANCE FIELD RIG FOR HUMAN 3D SHAPE AND APPEARANCE MODELLING

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes an image deformation apparatus that can modify the arrangement of features in an input image while maintaining the overall appearance of the feature.

  • Receives an input image
  • Extracts arrangement parameters of a feature from the input image
  • Extracts appearance parameters of the feature from the input image
  • Generates deformed arrangement parameters by modifying the location of at least one point of the feature
  • Renders an output image with a deformed feature based on the deformed arrangement parameters and appearance parameters

Potential Applications

This technology could be used in various fields such as:

  • Image editing software
  • Augmented reality applications
  • Medical imaging for analysis and visualization

Problems Solved

  • Allows for controlled deformation of features in images
  • Maintains the overall appearance of the feature while changing its arrangement

Benefits

  • Enables precise control over the deformation of features
  • Enhances the visual appeal of images without distorting the overall appearance

Potential Commercial Applications

"Image Deformation Apparatus: Revolutionizing Image Editing and Augmented Reality"

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art could be traditional image editing software that allows for basic transformations like scaling, rotating, and skewing images. However, the specific feature of maintaining the appearance of a deformed feature while changing its arrangement may be a novel aspect of this technology.

Unanswered Questions

How does the apparatus handle complex features with multiple points of deformation?

The abstract mentions modifying the location of at least one point of the feature, but it is unclear how the apparatus would handle features with multiple points of deformation. Further details on this aspect would provide a clearer understanding of the technology's capabilities.

Can the apparatus be applied to video processing as well?

While the abstract focuses on image deformation, it is not explicitly mentioned whether the technology can be extended to video processing. Exploring the potential application of this apparatus in video editing and manipulation would be beneficial for understanding its versatility.

Original Abstract Submitted

An image deformation apparatus comprising processors and a memory storing in non-transient form data defining program code executable by the processors to implement an image deformation model. The apparatus is configured to: receive an input image; extract arrangement parameters of a feature from the input image; extract appearance parameters of the feature from the input image; generate deformed arrangement parameters by modifying the location of at least one point of the feature; and render an output image comprising a deformed feature corresponding to the feature in dependence on the deformed arrangement parameters and the appearance parameters. The apparatus may enable the arrangement of the deformed feature of the output image to be controlled while maintaining the overall appearance of the feature of the input image.
