AUTOMATED SEQUENTIAL SITE NAVIGATION - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18514441 titled 'AUTOMATED SEQUENTIAL SITE NAVIGATION

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a system that automatically navigates websites in a sequential manner, records interactions, and analyzes data efficiently.

  • The system performs specific network requests in a specified order without using a browser.
  • Interactions with websites are recorded, stored, and analyzed automatically.
  • Data extraction and other operations can be performed more efficiently and quickly.
  • The system can simulate browser operations effectively and extract useful information from web servers.

Potential Applications

This technology can be applied in various fields such as web scraping, data mining, automated testing, and web analytics.

Problems Solved

1. Manual navigation of websites for data extraction is time-consuming and inefficient. 2. Extracting relevant information from web servers can be challenging without proper analysis.

Benefits

1. Improved efficiency in data extraction and analysis. 2. Reduction in computing resources needed for web operations. 3. Enhanced accuracy in simulating browser interactions.

Potential Commercial Applications

Optimizing web scraping processes for market research firms, enhancing automated testing tools for software companies, and improving data mining capabilities for analytics companies.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art could be automated web scraping tools that perform similar functions but may not have the same level of efficiency and accuracy as described in this patent application.

Unanswered Questions

How does the system ensure data security during automated interactions with websites?

The system may use encryption protocols and secure connections to protect sensitive information during data extraction and analysis.

What measures are in place to prevent potential legal issues related to web scraping activities?

The system may include features to comply with website terms of service, avoid overloading servers, and respect copyright laws to mitigate legal risks associated with web scraping.

Original Abstract Submitted

A website is navigated automatically in a sequential manner, for example by performing a series of specific network requests in a specified order, without necessarily using a browser, and without necessarily rendering each web page in the sequence. Interactions with a website are automatically recorded, stored, and analyzed. Requests and responses can be associated with particular input/output operations. Based on the analysis, the system can determine what data is expected by web servers, so that it can effectively simulate browser operations in connection with those web servers, and extract useful information from the data received in response to those operations. Thus, data extraction and/or other operations can be performed more efficiently and more quickly, while reducing the computing resources needed.
