CONCEPT FOR GENERATING AN ENHANCED SOUND FIELD DESCRIPTION OR A MODIFIED SOUND FIELD DESCRIPTION USING A MULTI-POINT SOUND FIELD DESCRIPTION - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18513090 titled 'CONCEPT FOR GENERATING AN ENHANCED SOUND FIELD DESCRIPTION OR A MODIFIED SOUND FIELD DESCRIPTION USING A MULTI-POINT SOUND FIELD DESCRIPTION

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes an apparatus for generating an enhanced sound field description, which includes a sound field generator and a meta data generator. The sound field generator generates sound field descriptions with respect to reference locations, while the meta data generator generates spatial information related to the sound field.

  • Sound field generator: responsible for generating sound field descriptions indicating a sound field with respect to reference locations.
  • Meta data generator: generates meta data relating to spatial information of the sound field.
  • Enhanced sound field description: consists of the sound field descriptions and the meta data.
  • Spatial information: includes reference locations and vectors extending between them.

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in:

  • Virtual reality and augmented reality systems for immersive audio experiences.
  • Acoustic design in architectural planning for optimizing sound distribution in spaces.

Problems Solved

  • Enhances the accuracy and detail of sound field descriptions.
  • Provides spatial information to improve sound field analysis and manipulation.

Benefits

  • Improved sound field representation for various applications.
  • Enhanced spatial awareness for better sound design and engineering.

Potential Commercial Applications

  • Audio engineering software and hardware development.
  • Entertainment industry for creating realistic soundscapes in movies and games.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art could be systems for generating sound field descriptions in virtual reality environments, but the inclusion of meta data relating to spatial information may be a novel aspect of this technology.

Unanswered Questions

How does this technology impact the field of acoustics?

This technology could revolutionize the way sound fields are analyzed and manipulated in various industries, but the specific implications for acoustics as a scientific field are not explicitly discussed in the abstract.

What are the potential limitations of this apparatus?

The abstract does not mention any potential limitations or challenges that may arise in the implementation or use of this apparatus. Further details would be needed to understand the full scope of its capabilities and constraints.

Original Abstract Submitted

Apparatus for generating an enhanced sound field description, including: a sound field generator for generating at least one sound field description indicating a sound field with respect to at least one reference location; and a meta data generator for generating meta data relating to spatial information of the sound field, wherein the at least one sound field description and the meta data constitute the enhanced sound field description. The at least one sound field description includes in a certain case a first sound field description related to the at least one reference location and a second sound field description related to a further reference location being different from the reference location, and the meta data relating to the spatial information indicates the reference location and the further reference location or one of both reference locations and a vector extending between both reference locations.
