This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18511713 titled 'OPTICAL DETECTION SYSTEM WITH ANAMORPHIC PRISM
Simplified Explanation
The present disclosure describes a LiDAR system with an optical detection system that includes a transmitter, a receiver with an imaging processor and an anamorph prism system, and at least one scanner for guiding optical radiation across a target scene.
- The system emits optical radiation and detects reflected radiation from objects in a target scene.
- An anamorph prism system compresses the reflected radiation in a predefined direction by a predefined factor.
- The imaging processor generates an image with an aspect ratio based on the predefined factor.
Potential Applications
LiDAR systems like this can be used in autonomous vehicles for object detection and navigation. They can also be utilized in robotics for mapping and obstacle avoidance.
Problems Solved
This technology helps in accurately detecting objects with varying reflectivities at different distances. It provides high-resolution images with an optimized aspect ratio for better analysis.
Benefits

Potential Commercial Applications
"LiDAR System for Autonomous Vehicles and Robotics
Original Abstract Submitted
The present disclosure relates to light detection and ranging (LiDAR) systems, such as LiDAR sensors detecting objects with various reflectivities at various distances. An optical detection system includes a transmitter for emitting at least one beam of optical radiation, a receiver including an imaging processor and an anamorph prism system, and at least one scanner for guiding the at least one beam along a scan direction across a target scene and/or guiding a reflected optical radiation of the at least one beam from the target scene to the receiver. The anamorph prism system is configured to produce a processed beam by compressing the reflected optical radiation in a predefined direction by a predefined factor. The imaging processor includes a two-dimensional detector and is configured to generate an image based on the processed beam on the two-dimensional detector, the image having an aspect ratio that is based on the predefined factor.
