ELECTRONIC APPARATUS AND METHOD OF CONTROLLING THEREOF - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18492231 titled 'ELECTRONIC APPARATUS AND METHOD OF CONTROLLING THEREOF

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes an electronic apparatus that uses multiple microphones, a display, a driver, and a sensor to identify and locate a sound source in the surrounding space. The apparatus receives an acoustic signal through the microphones and uses distance information sensed by the sensor to identify potential spaces where the sound source could be located. It then performs sound source location estimation to determine the exact location of the sound source within the identified space. Finally, the apparatus controls the driver to ensure that the display faces the identified location of the sound source.

  • The electronic apparatus uses multiple microphones, a display, a driver, and a sensor.
  • It receives an acoustic signal through the microphones.
  • The sensor senses the distance to an object around the apparatus.
  • The processor uses the acoustic signal and distance information to identify potential spaces where the sound source could be located.
  • It performs sound source location estimation to determine the exact location of the sound source within the identified space.
  • The driver is controlled to ensure that the display faces the identified location of the sound source.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Home entertainment systems: The apparatus can be used to automatically adjust the position of the display based on the location of the sound source, providing an immersive audiovisual experience.
  • Video conferencing: The apparatus can track the location of the speaker and adjust the display accordingly, improving communication and engagement during remote meetings.
  • Virtual reality gaming: By accurately locating the sound source, the apparatus can enhance the gaming experience by synchronizing the display with the direction of the sound, creating a more immersive environment.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Ensures that the display is always facing the sound source, improving the quality of audiovisual experiences.
  • Eliminates the need for manual adjustment of the display position, making it more convenient for users.
  • Enhances communication during video conferencing by automatically focusing on the speaker.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved audiovisual experience: By accurately locating the sound source, the apparatus ensures that the display is always facing the right direction, enhancing the immersion and realism of audiovisual content.
  • Convenience: Users do not have to manually adjust the display position as the apparatus automatically tracks and adjusts based on the location of the sound source.
  • Enhanced communication: In video conferencing scenarios, the apparatus improves communication by automatically focusing on the speaker, making remote meetings more engaging and effective.

Original Abstract Submitted

An electronic apparatus is provided. The electronic apparatus includes a plurality of microphones, a display, a driver, a sensor configured to sense a distance to an object around the electronic apparatus, and a processor configured to, based on an acoustic signal being received through the plurality of microphones, identify at least one candidate space with respect to a sound source in a space around the electronic apparatus using distance information sensed by the sensor, identify a location of the sound source from which the acoustic signal is output by performing sound source location estimation with respect to the identified candidate space, and control the driver such that the display faces the identified location of the sound source.
