An image reading device includes a first image reading unit to read an image of a medium placed on a placement portion, a cover unit, and a hinge portion. The cover unit is rotatable in a first direction from a first position to cover the placement portion toward a second position and in a second direction from the second position toward the first position. The hinge portion has a first opening provided on a placement portion side, a second opening provided on a cover unit side, a first space in which a first cable extending from the first opening toward the second opening is disposed, and a second space that is adjacent to the first space via a partition portion and in which a second cable extending from the first opening toward the second opening is disposed. The first space extends in the first direction near the first opening.
