ELECTRONIC DEVICE AND METHOD, IN ELECTRONIC DEVICE, FOR DETERMINING WHETHER OBJECT IS NEAR - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18486162 titled 'ELECTRONIC DEVICE AND METHOD, IN ELECTRONIC DEVICE, FOR DETERMINING WHETHER OBJECT IS NEAR

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes an electronic device that includes an application processor with an audio processing module and a voice recognition module, a microphone, a speaker, and a sensor hub. When the audio processing module is in a sleep state, the sensor hub generates an ultrasonic signal and provides it to the speaker, which outputs a signal including the ultrasonic signal. The device also receives a second signal from the voice recognition module through the microphone and determines if an object is near the device based on the first and second signals.

  • The electronic device includes an application processor with audio processing and voice recognition modules.
  • It has a microphone, a speaker, and a sensor hub.
  • The sensor hub generates an ultrasonic signal and provides it to the speaker.
  • The speaker outputs a signal that includes the ultrasonic signal.
  • The device receives a second signal from the voice recognition module through the microphone.
  • It determines if an object is near the device based on the first and second signals.

Potential Applications:

  • Object detection: The device can determine if an object is near it, which can be useful for applications such as proximity sensing or security systems.
  • Voice recognition: The device includes a voice recognition module, which can be used for voice commands or voice-controlled applications.
  • Audio processing: The device has an audio processing module, which can be used for tasks like noise cancellation or audio enhancement.

Problems Solved:

  • Object detection: The device solves the problem of detecting nearby objects by using an ultrasonic signal and analyzing the received signals.
  • Voice recognition: The device solves the problem of accurately recognizing voice inputs by including a dedicated voice recognition module.
  • Audio processing: The device solves the problem of processing audio signals efficiently by including an audio processing module within the application processor.

Benefits:

  • Improved user experience: The device's ability to detect objects and accurately recognize voice inputs can enhance user interactions and make the device more intuitive to use.
  • Enhanced functionality: The inclusion of audio processing and voice recognition modules expands the capabilities of the device, allowing for a wider range of applications.
  • Efficient signal processing: The device's integration of the audio processing module within the application processor ensures efficient processing of audio signals, leading to improved performance.

Original Abstract Submitted

An electronic device, according to various embodiments, includes: an application processor including an audio processing module and a voice recognition module; a mic; a speaker; and a sensor hub. While the audio processing module included in the application processor is in a sleep state, the sensor hub generates an ultrasonic signal and provides the ultrasonic signal to the speaker so that the speaker outputs a first signal including the ultrasonic signal therethrough; receives, from the voice recognition module, a second signal inputted through the mic; and determines whether an object is near the electronic device, at least on the basis of the first signal and the second signal.
