STORING POSITIONING-RELATED CAPABILITIES IN THE NETWORK - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18485988 titled 'STORING POSITIONING-RELATED CAPABILITIES IN THE NETWORK

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes techniques for wireless communication, specifically related to positioning capabilities of user equipment (UE). Here is a simplified explanation of the abstract:

  • User equipment (UE) transmits positioning capability reports to a location server.
  • The positioning capability reports include two sets of values for a set of positioning capability parameters.
  • The first set of values represents variable positioning capabilities of the UE.
  • The second set of values represents non-variable positioning capabilities of the UE.

Potential Applications:

  • Improved location-based services: The disclosed techniques can enhance location-based services by providing more accurate and detailed positioning capabilities of user equipment.
  • Network optimization: The information about variable and non-variable positioning capabilities can help network operators optimize their networks for better coverage and performance.

Problems Solved:

  • Inaccurate positioning information: By providing both variable and non-variable positioning capabilities, the disclosed techniques address the problem of inaccurate or incomplete positioning information.
  • Limited understanding of UE capabilities: The techniques enable a more comprehensive understanding of the positioning capabilities of user equipment, allowing for better decision-making in network operations and service provisioning.

Benefits:

  • Enhanced user experience: With more accurate positioning capabilities, location-based services can provide users with improved experiences, such as precise navigation or targeted advertising.
  • Efficient network management: The disclosed techniques enable network operators to optimize their resources based on the variable and non-variable positioning capabilities of user equipment, leading to more efficient network management and improved overall performance.

Original Abstract Submitted

Disclosed are techniques for wireless communication. In an aspect, a user equipment (UE) transmits one or more positioning capability reports to a location server, the one or more positioning capability reports including a first set of values for a set of positioning capability parameters and a second set of values for the set of positioning capability parameters, wherein the first set of values indicate variable positioning capabilities of the UE represented by the set of positioning capability parameters, and wherein the second set of values indicate non-variable positioning capabilities of the UE represented by the set of positioning capability parameters.
