DEFAULT BEAM FOR COMMUNICATION NETWORKS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18484411 titled 'DEFAULT BEAM FOR COMMUNICATION NETWORKS

Simplified Explanation

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described in this patent application. The abstract explains that a user equipment (UE) can determine when an inactivity timer associated with a first set of one or more beams used for communication with a network entity has expired. The UE then identifies its location information and the beam geometry information for the one or more beams associated with the network entity. Using this information, the UE can identify a second set of one or more beams that are different from the first set. The UE and the network entity can then communicate using this second set of beams.

  • The patent application describes a method for a UE to switch to a different set of beams for communication with a network entity.
  • The UE determines when the inactivity timer for the current set of beams has expired.
  • The UE identifies its location information and the beam geometry information for the current set of beams.
  • The UE uses the location and beam geometry information to identify a new set of beams.
  • The UE and the network entity can then communicate using the new set of beams.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Satellite communications: This technology can be applied to improve wireless communications between user equipment and satellite networks.
  • Mobile networks: The method described in the patent application can be used to enhance communication efficiency and reliability in mobile networks.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Inefficient communication: By switching to a different set of beams based on location and beam geometry information, the communication between the UE and the network entity can be optimized, reducing inefficiencies.
  • Limited coverage: The technology allows for better coverage and connectivity by identifying the most suitable beams for communication.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved communication reliability: By selecting the most appropriate beams, the technology can enhance the reliability of wireless communications.
  • Enhanced network efficiency: The method described in the patent application can improve the efficiency of wireless networks by optimizing beam selection based on location and beam geometry information.

Original Abstract Submitted

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may determine an inactivity timer associated with a first set of one or more beams used for communicating with a network entity associated with a satellite has expired. The UE may identify location information corresponding to the location of the UE with respect to the network entity. The UE may identify beam geometry information for one or more beams associated with the network entity. For example, the UE may receive the beam geometry information from the network entity. The UE may process the location information and the beam geometry information to identify a second set of one or more beams, the second set different than the first set. The UE and the network entity may communicate according to the second set of one or more beams.
