SIDELINK GROUPCAST CONFIGURATION TO SUPPORT FEEDBACK CONTROL - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18483456 titled 'SIDELINK GROUPCAST CONFIGURATION TO SUPPORT FEEDBACK CONTROL

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications involving sidelink communications between user equipment (UE) in a group. Here are some key points from the abstract:

  • User equipment (UE) can communicate with other UEs using sidelink communications.
  • Multiple UEs can form a sidelink communications group for groupcast communications.
  • UE identification is determined based on a member identification within the group.
  • Each UE in the group can determine feedback resources for acknowledgment feedback based on UE identification and group size.

Potential Applications

The technology described in the patent application could be applied in various scenarios such as:

  • Public safety communications
  • Vehicle-to-vehicle communication
  • Internet of Things (IoT) devices communication

Problems Solved

The technology addresses several challenges in wireless communications, including:

  • Efficient group communication
  • Resource allocation for feedback in group communications
  • UE identification in sidelink communications

Benefits

The technology offers the following benefits:

  • Improved reliability in group communications
  • Enhanced efficiency in resource allocation
  • Seamless communication among UEs in a group

Potential Commercial Applications

The technology could be valuable in commercial applications such as:

  • Smart city infrastructure
  • Industrial IoT networks
  • Emergency response systems

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art for this technology could be the use of group communication protocols in wireless networks, but the specific method of determining UE identification based on group membership may be novel.

Unanswered Questions

How does this technology impact battery life of the user equipment?

The patent application does not provide information on how the technology may affect the battery life of the user equipment. This could be an important consideration for practical implementation.

What are the potential security implications of sidelink groupcast communications?

The patent application does not address the security aspects of sidelink groupcast communications. Understanding the potential vulnerabilities and security measures in place would be crucial for real-world deployment.

Original Abstract Submitted

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described, in which a user equipment (UE) may communicate with one or more other UEs using sidelink communications. Multiple UEs may form a sidelink communications group and provide for sidelink groupcast communications in which an identification of a UE is determined based at least in part on a member identification of the UE within the group. Each UE in the group may determine feedback resources for acknowledgment feedback within the group based on a UE identification and a size of the group.
